Battery

Here are some recommendations to keep your battery healthy during this winter storage period. This is important to avoid prematurely wearing out the life of your battery.
At Yulbike, we consider a storage period when the bike is not used for more than 1 month. During these periods it is recommended to put the battery at a voltage between 37V and 38V and to remove it from the bike. Here is how to proceed.
How can I see the voltage of my battery?
- Turn on your bike
- Press the middle button twice to display the battery voltage: vol 37.5 for example. this indicates that your bike is at a voltage of 37.5 volts )

How do I adjust the voltage of my battery?
- If your battery is below 37V you can charge your bike. Check your LCD screen while charging to make sure you don't exceed 38V.
- If your battery is above 38V you can try discharging the battery by riding the bike with the throttle only (assist 5).
My battery is overcharged and I can't discharge it enough, what should I do?
- If you can't get out because of bad weather, at least try to reach 40V by using the bike's throttle and lifting the rear wheel.
- If you can get out for a ride then only use the throttle in mode 5 and do short sequences of acceleration and braking. This will use up more energy and drain the battery faster.
- You can have your battery balanced to the perfect voltage at our Montreal workshop using our battery winterization service.
My battery is now at the right voltage, what should I do?
- You can remove the battery from your bike and store it in a room in your house between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius.
- No need to recharge the battery during winter. It will be ready for use in the spring.
Good to know
- Your yulbike is completely discharged when the battery voltage reaches 30V
- Your yulbike is fully charged when the battery voltage reaches 42V
- A battery should never be stored fully charged at 42V or fully discharged at 30V
- A battery should never be stored at negative temperatures or above 40 degrees.
Your Yulbike urban battery can be charged while remaining on the bike or you can remove the battery and charge it separately from the bike. To do this, the bike comes with a pair of keys to unlock the battery from your bike frame.
Remove the battery from the bike:
- Insert the key in the lock
- Turn and hold the key to the left
- Insert your indexes in the notches of the battery
- Pull the battery up.
Put on the bike's battery:
- Insert the bottom of the battery into the frame first
- Insert the top of the battery into the lock and hear the "clip" that indicates your battery is securely locked in your lock.
Warning: If your battery is not properly inserted in your lock, you could lose power to your bike at the slightest bump.
The autonomy of your bike is affected by the outside temperature. When the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius, it is possible to lose up to 40% of autonomy (in extreme temperatures). This is caused by the Lithium-ion technology that makes up your cells.
Your bike is sold with a 42V 2A charger. This charger must be used exclusively to charge your bike. It must be installed on a flat, well-ventilated surface. It is normal for your charger to become hot when charging. Here are the steps to use your charger properly:
- Plug your charger into the wall first. A green indicator should light up on your charger. If no indicator lights up, check that your electrical outlet is working. It is important that your electrical outlet is working or your battery may be damaged.
- Connect the charger to your battery. Your battery may still be on the bike or may have been removed. The light on the charger should be red. This indicates that your battery is charging.
- When your battery is charged, the light on the charger will turn green again. You can disconnect your charger from the battery.
Your battery is of lithium-ion technology. This type of battery has no charge memory. You can recharge your battery at any time, even if you have only done a 5 km ride.
The only rule to follow is the following: If you do not use your bike for several weeks, your battery should not be empty (close to 30V) or full (close to 42V). Refer to the storage instructions above at that time.
You can check the following things:
- Putting your battery on the bike
- Turn on your screen
- Briefly press the middle button twice
- You will see the voltage of the battery, example: Vol 41.0 (this indicates a voltage of 41V)
Your battery is empty at 30V and full at 42V. Check the number indicated.
If your battery is close to 42V, your battery is well charged.
The gauge at the top left of your screen may indicate an almost empty battery. You have to ride the bike for about 50m so that the gauge is updated.
In any case, it is important not to store your bike for a long time (several months) when its battery is empty or too full.
Also make sure that the wall outlet you are using to charge your battery is working. To do this, plug the charger into the wall without it being connected to the battery. The light on the charger should be green. If the charger does not light up then the outlet is not working and it could damage your battery if you try to plug it into the charger at that time.
Uses
Your bike can be ridden in light rain. When your ride is over we recommend wiping your bike with a dry cloth around the screen, throttle and 3-button lever.
Your bike should not be ridden in heavy rain. We do not recommend this type of use. Repeated exposure to heavy rain can cause electrical failure.
Your bike can be used in winter and ride under the snow. It is mandatory to dry the underside of your bike frame, electrical components and accessories with a dry cloth after each ride in the snow. Calcium, ice, salt, are elements that can cause accelerated aging of the bike components.
We recommend installing a studded tire at the front of the bike. This will result in better steering control.
If you must leave your bike outside in wet weather, it will be mandatory to leave the bike battery in the bike frame to prevent the battery contacts from being exposed to rain.
We strongly recommend purchasing a bike cover. It will protect it from UV rays and rain while avoiding the accumulation of humidity.
We do not recommend using a camping tarp to cover your bike. It is not really rainproof, does not protect against UV rays and could create a humidity accumulation.

Your bike is ideal for camping use. The only recommendation we can give is to clean your bike with a damp cloth if your bike is muddy, and use a dry cloth to dry it.
You could also use a bike house when storing your bike outside. The bike house protects it from the weather, UV rays and lets your bike breathe.
We recommend to do a maintenance at our Montreal Yulbike workshop or at one of our dealers once a year or every 3000km.
When riding in the rain or snow we recommend wiping the bike with a dry cloth after your ride.
We recommend checking your tire pressure every 200 miles. Your bike should have a tire pressure of 55 psi. If your tires are not at the correct pressure, your bike will consume more battery power, your handling will be diminished and you will be more prone to punctures.
